With the Pacific Ocean to the east and the majestic Southern Alps to the west, Ashburton is a great place to work and play.

In the winter, the area offers a number of ski fields, including the internationally recognised Mt. Hutt Ski Area, as well as several smaller ski fields and winter tourist operations.

For keen anglers, the Rakaia River to the north and Rangitata River to the south are two of New Zealand’s premier salmon fishing rivers.

Lake Hood is a relatively new attraction in the Ashburton region. The 80ha man-made aquatic park offers sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, water-skiing and boating facilities, as well as a purpose-built rowing watercourse and swimming beach surrounded by a beautiful landscaped park area – and only minutes from the Ashburton Business Estate.

In addition, the Ashburton region offers golf courses, a synthetic hockey turf, equine race centre, nationally rated tennis complex and a covered heated swimming complex.
